Summary: Shawn starts the day out right.
A/N: Squishy Shawn.
Shawn was all but vibrating with energy when he came striding through Gus' front door at seven fifteen as he was just sitting down at the kitchen table, still dressed in his pajamas, with a cup of coffee.
Gus stared as he headed straight down the hallway toward his room, calling, “Gus! Good morning, it's a new day, wake up! Wake up!”
He waited, taking a sip of his coffee so that he would at least be slightly more coherent when Shawn realized he wasn't still sleeping and made his way back out here. Which he did about thirty seconds later, still looking positively electric with happiness.
“Dude, there you are,” he said and Gus took another sip of his coffee.
Then he asked, “What are you doing up at this hour, Shawn?”
Shawn shrugged, pulling out a chair and spinning it around so that he could sit on it backwards, facing Gus. He rarely offered up true smiles, but the look on his face right now was about as close to an out-and-out grin Gus had ever seen. “I dunno,” he said, leg bouncing up and down, “What's wrong with this hour?”
“Nothing,” Gus said. “Seven o'clock is a good hour. It's the beginning of the day. Earlier than you normally get up.”
Another shrug, but Shawn's grin grew even more clearly into just that.
And then Gus realized.
“Juliet gets to work at seven, doesn't she?”
Now the expression on his face was so unbelievably gleeful, Gus decided he now knew exactly what a “stupid” grin looked like. He resisted the urge to plant his face into the middle of his palm.
“She let me drive her to work this morning.” If Shawn looked any happier, he was probably going to implode.
Gus nodded slowly and drew up the most obvious conclusion. “I take it that means you're picking her up, too.”
“Five o'clock.”
“And what date does that make tonight?”
Shawn's arms squeezed around the top of the chair back; Gus hadn't seen him look this...giddy since high school. Early in high school. “Tonight will make six.”
Gus dipped his head, lifting his mug. “Congratulations.”
Shawn just grinned.
